President's Letter

It is an honor and great pleasure to serve as President of WCAWA this year. The WCAWA 2010-2011 season has already gotten off to a great start. This year’s Summer Social was held at the Indian Hills Country Club. A live band, good food and drinks and a diverse group of attendees created the prefect atmosphere. This year’s Social also featured a fundraiser benefitting Kid’s Chance. Attendees had the opportunity to purchase additional chances to win the door prizes given away at the Social and all proceeds will be donated to Kid’s Chance. Thanks to all that donated prizes. We raised $220 for Kids Chance and “of course,” in order to hold true to my reputation…I won a prize! Our fundraising efforts for Kid’s Chance provide scholarships and educational opportunities for children of workers injured or killed on the job. Tracy Daniel of Kid’s Chance attended the Social and took a few moments to share a story about a Kid’s Chance recipient. Thanks Tracy! Also, a special thanks for those who worked so hard putting together this year’s Summer Social.

WCAWA has a great year ahead. Our website is undergoing a major overhaul. Our plan is to utilize the website for our members. Our new site should be up and running soon at www.wcawa.org. It is very important that we hear from our members. We are open to your suggestions and invite you to participate as we plan functions for WCAWA such as the Educational Conference, fundraisers and socials. We will have a sign-up for various committees at our September meeting so please consider working with us. We would like to increase our membership, particularly with industry. Please feel free to invite your industry contacts to our monthly meeting and make sure that they know that if attending for the first time, lunch is on us! We will also increase our fundraising efforts for Kid’s Chance this year so look for more great raffles and if you have any suggestions for Kids Chance fundraisers, please let us know. We will continue to offer Nursing CEU’s at our monthly meetings and Educational Conference.

We have a great list of speakers planned for this year. Jim Trull of HSI will speak in September on Medicare Mandatory Insurer Reporting Requirements and Mike Fish of Fish Nelson, LLC will provide us with a Case Law Update in October.

If you are interested in becoming a member of WCAWA or an Annual Corporate Sponsor, I personally invite you to join us at Indian Hills Country Club on Tuesday, September 28 at 11:30 a.m. for our first meeting and see what WCAWA has to offer. And remember, lunch is on us for first-time Industry Attendees. We hope to see you there!
